Petition of Roelof Vandecar.

Van der Kar.

Montreal, 2 Jan., 1732.

Through the interest of Sir John Johnson got pension of t 7 per muster. This
he received pn 2lt Dec., 1781, which was held up.

Petitioner has since been employed on Secret Service by Dr. S&nith, for which
he furnishes expense account and prays that this be presented along with petition
for payment of pension.

Was an Inhabitant of County Albany in 1777 and in conjunction with Mr. Janes
Huston did raise and engage for lis Majesty's service 6U men. But being discovered
by the Rebels, were obliged to retire to the woods, and sent a man at the same
time to Gen. Burgoyne's Camp at Saratoga to know his mind relative to our joining
his Army. He sent us a Pilot with Directions to join him. But before we could join
his Camp he with his Army was so surrounded that it was impossible for us to join
him. So we remained in the woods until his surrender. Then, being obliged to dis-
perse, lour Memorialist, with a small party, attempted to join the King's troops
then lying near Oesppus, but was defeated, wounded and made prisoner by the Rebels.
Ke afterwards made his escape and remained in secret places till the year 1778,
when he and Mr. Thomas Garnet with 39 men joined Capt. Tice's party at the Una-
dilla on the Susquehanna River. After a tedious march Your Memorialist arrived in
this province in Nov., 1778.

That on the recommendation of Sir John Johnson Your Excellency was pleased to
grant your Memorialist a pension of L 7 per muster, which he received until 2& Dec.,
1781, at which period the said Pension was witheld for reasons then and yet un-
known to your Memorialist. He has made two requ»dts to Major M a tthews.

Petition of Ralph Van De Car.

States that he had to quit County of .Albany and take refuge in this province
in 1778. Has frequently been on secret service since then.

Sacrificed property. New his services are no longer required. He is deter-
mined to settle on Lake Champlain, and had actually applied to Col. Caldwell's
agent, a Mr. McCarthy, for some land there, who promised the same to your pet-
itioner. But that from a false and infamous reoort spread to injure your Petit-
ioner's unblemished character by some ill disposed persons and oarticularly by
a Capt. William Fraser of Col. Jessup&s Corps, your netitioner's life was threat-
ened to be taken, and was likewise refused the lands before promised to him, and
ordered off the ground by a Capt. McFall, so that he is now deprived of all means
of support and is in continual fear of his life, as he is charged with having been
the means of getting a Col. Houston executed at -Albany— a falsehood of the most
enormous kind, as your Petitioner can prove to the satisfaction of all the world,
for at the very time of that execution your oetitioner was obliged to quit his
home and secrete himself in the woods until he could get off to this country.

Requests an enouiry into this affair.

States that George Wherman, Cant. McFall 's servant, a few days ago made an
attemot to stab him, but was prevented by a soldier, Patrick Reardon, of the S>3rd
Regt. Light Infantry,
